Past Programmes
A list of Martabat PJ's past programmes, each a reflection of our dedication to empowering marginalised groups, building inclusive communities and fostering sustainable change. Martabat PJ would like to thank our community of volunteers past and present, and those sponsors who helped us along the way in making our journey possible.
2018-2022

Lembah Subang Food Bank
Between 2018-2022, Martabat PJ volunteers ran a food bank to distribute rescued and essential food items to PPR Lembah Subang families who earned less than RM1,500 a month. 1000 families had received our food baskets twice a month, with each basket containing an estimated 2 weeks worth of essential food supplies to sustain each family. In partnership with the Food Aid Foundation (FAF) and other sponsors, a total of 22,000kgs of food was saved and more than 100 distributions were done.
2018-2022
Program 50 Keluarga Sihat
A transformative community programme aimed at encouraging low income residents of Taman Medan Cahaya to adopt healthy lifestyle changes by maintaining a consistent nutritional diet and through regular exercise. A survey conducted in 2018 found that a large number of residents in the area suffered from obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. The programme was run along with the ultimate aim of preventing and managing Non-Communicable Diseases and to promote healthy living among urban poor communities without the need to spend more.

2019-2023
Community Childcare Workshops (Kaptr)

The programme, which first began in 2019 was meant to allow women from marginalised communities to get professional training so that they can acquire the skills to run their own childcare centres in their respective communities.
The lack of childcare centres in the urban poor areas, especially the PPRs makes it difficult for mothers in those communities to drop off their children when they go out to work. With community based childcare, mothers can help increase the family's income when they go out to work without worry. Modules that were taught to participants include: introduction to the field of childcare in Malaysia; child development; traditional stories, songs and games; balanced diet and menu planning; caregiver ethics and professionalism; and administration and finance.
2022-2023
Bazar Kongsi
Through this programme, we collected used household items donated from members of the public and distributed them to residents in need. The items often include home and kitchen appliances, electronics, fabrics and clothing, bags, and more. Our most recent distribution was in 2023 when pre-loved items from the public were distributed to all 8 blocks of Taman Medan Cahaya.

2022 - 2024

Sama-sama Membina Malaysia Workshops
Sama-sama Membina Malaysia is a community building workshop that encourages individuals from various communities in Malaysia to get to know, understand and challenge existing stereotypes about each other in a safe space. Participants will get to acknowledge their shared Malaysian identity and develop a sense of concern for one another as they work towards building skills that they can later use to challenge societal barriers, advocate for inclusivity, and create a fairer, more equitable nation. Sama-sama Malaysia was developed and conducted by Patricia Nunis and Dr. Hamidah Marican from Harmonyworks Resources and we are working towards conducting a number of workshops among the marginalised communities in Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya in the near future.
